Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
1004 AM PDT Thu Jun 12 2025

.SYNOPSIS...Temperatures will gradually increase through the
remainder of the work week into the weekend, peaking on Sunday.
Meanwhile, expect breezy-to-gusty southwesterly winds each afternoon
through the forecast period.

&&

.UPDATE...No significant changes to the forecast as warm, dry, and
breezy conditions are set to continue through the weekend. Looking
ahead to next week, confidence is growing in the passage of a
shortwave trough on Monday and Tuesday. This feature will pull
temperatures down closer to normal, but with no signs of
precipitation in sight, the main story is likely going to be the
increased winds and fire danger.

&&

.DISCUSSION...Today through Wednesday.

A building area of high pressure over the southeastern Pacific Ocean
will increase heights across the Desert Southwest, resulting in
increasing temperatures each day through the remainder of the work
week into the weekend. Temperatures will peak on Sunday at 8 to 12
degrees above seasonal normals, with a forecast temperature of 108
for Las Vegas. For now, "Major" HeatRisk is limited to the lowest
valleys on Saturday and Sunday, with widespread "Moderate" HeatRisk
through the weekend and start of next week. Will continue to assess
the need for a heat-related headline as we get closer.

Meanwhile, a closed area of low pressure will meander slowly
southward through the Gulf of Alaska. This, combined with the
aforementioned southeastern Pacific high will result in a dry
southwesterly flow aloft and moderately tight pressure gradients. As
such, you can expect breezy-to-gusty southwesterly winds each
afternoon through the forecast period.

Above-normal temperatures, breezy afternoon winds, and bone-dry
afternoon relative humidities will result in increased fire danger.
In general, fuels are not yet critical across our forecast area, but
if you`re recreating outside this week, be extra cognizant of
activities that involve sparks or flames.

Early next week, there is increasing certainty that a trough will
elongate off the California coast before pushing inland. This will
result in a slight drop in temperatures and a further increase in
winds.

&&

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...South-
southwest winds remain in place through the TAF period, strongest
during the afternoon/evening hours and weaker overnight and in the
morning. Gusts in the afternoon around 25 knots, dropping to 15-20
knots tonight and becoming more intermittent. VFR conditions prevail
with just a few high clouds. Temperatures to exceed 100F between 20z
and 03z, peaking around 103F.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...Southerly to westerly breezes continue today, with
gusts 20-30 knots during the afternoon and evening. Winds will
weaken after sunset except across western San Bernardino County
where weakening will be later in the night. VFR conditions persist
with just few to scattered high clouds.

&&

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
